Law enforcement agencies from Florida, Georgia and Alabama gathered at the Kirbo Center in Bainbridge, Georgia Tuesday afternoon for the 22nd kick-off of the Annual “Hands Across the Border”multi-agency event.
The event brings together officers from six states just prior to the Labor Day weekend as a media event to encourage drivers to practice safe driving habits, not drive impaired, and to avoid accidents and injuries.
Multi-agency road blocks will be set up across the six states starting Friday through the extended weekend.
Over 175 officers attended the kick-off dinner which locally included the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Gretna Police Department and the Havana Police Department.
Many of the officers participated in two road blocks following the event: one in Bainbridge and one at the Florida-Georgia border on U.S. 27.
There will be more about the event in next week’s Herald.
