County commissioners heard some very good news at last week’s meeting.
Ron Whitesides, from the CPA firm Purvis Gray and Company, gave a presentation of the Fiscal Year 2013 Audit Report.
Whitesides stated the audit went well.
The county, he stated, has improved their financial health.
The audit included all of the county’s constitutional officers. The three issues that were mentioned in last year’s audit, Whitesides stated, were corrected and there were no significant problems found in this year’s audit.
He continued to say that his firm has audited the county for the past four years and this was the best audit.
It is recommended that there be at least two months worth of expenditure funds held in unrestricted reserves for unforseen expenses, he stated. Gadsden County now has two months and a quarter in reserves, or $6.3 million, he explained.
These reserves, he said, were created without any tax increases or any new revenue sources.
“A very positive report,” he said.
In response, Commissioner Doug Croley said he applauds the past and current administrations for the good report.
The audit will be placed on the Gadsden County web site at http://www.gadsdengov.net/.
