Kaitlyn Sirmons is All-State Student-Athlete: Munroe senior Kaitlyn Sirmons, on the strength of her status as a four-sport athlete, her 3.94 GPA, as well as her accomplishment as an All State Chorus member, was selected by the Florida High School Athletic Association as a 2013 FHSAA Academic All-State Award recipient. Kaitlyn was one of twelve girls chosen from a field of 129 nominees. This program honors 24 graduating seniors from around the state who excel in both athletics and academics.
A nominee must have a cumulative unweighted grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and must have earned a varsity letter in at least two different FHSAA-recognized sports during each of his or her junior and senior years. Each honoree will receive a $1,000 award as well as a commemorative medallion from the FHSAA for being selected to the team.
From among the 24 recipients, two Scholar-Athletes of the Year, one boy and one girl, will be announced at the FHSAA Academic All-State Awards Banquet on June 10 in Gainesville. The Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the most prestigious honors conferred on an active student-athlete by the Association, will receive an additional $3,000 each, as well as a trophy.
The selection committee also commended Kaitlyn for her outstanding hours accrued in the area of community service. Kaitlyn has served 102 hours this year. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Don and Brenda Sirmons of Havana.
