Memorial services for Orien Womack Thomas, 82, of Calvary, GA, were at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2013, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Cairo, GA. Richard Orr officiated. Interment was in the Cairo Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas passed away at her home in Calvary, GA, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013.
Mrs. Thomas was born on October 4, 1931, in Havana, FL, to the late Arthur Womack and Grace Glenn Womack. Orien grew up in Havana, FL, where she was the Tobacco Festival Queen in 1948 and May Queen in 1949. She was a majorette in high school and won first division honors in the district’s twirling contest. She attended Lively Technical College. On August 20, 1950, she married Gerald Doss Thomas, who survives. She was co-owner of Thomas Mercantile in Calvary, GA. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include: her husband of 63 years, Gerald Doss Thomas of Calvary, GA; daughter, Sharon Hawthorne (Bruce) of Whigham, GA; son, Bruce Thomas (Ellen) of Calvary, GA; grandchildren, Shelly Gayle (Rees) of Whigham, GA, Vicki Crain (Jimmie) of Tallahassee, FL, Scott Hawthorne of Whigham, GA; great-grandchildren, Gregory Gayle, Jason Gayle, Logan Gayle, all of Whigham, GA; and a sister, Emily Powell of Tallahassee, FL.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Arthur and Grace Womack; brothers, Ernest Womack, Jack Womack; and sisters, Rebecca Gillem, Barbara Kennedy.
The family received friends immediately following the service at the Kingdom Hall.
